Trade a trip. Asheville, NC for Folly Beach area

I am coming down with the family the July 6-13 to Folly Beach. I have my own kayak and was wanting to see if anyone would be willing to show me how to catch some reds for catch and release mainly. I’ll take you smallmouth bass fishing on the French broad river in Asheville or to a local lake to catch some largemouth bass.

I don’t have a kayak but I can put you on some big reds from the surf around that time. No return fishing trip required. All you really need are some live mullet in the surf or from folly beach pier.

Research the Grillage. If you can handle the rapids of the French Broad during high water and on the float around the Biltmore you will be comfortable. But do ride in and out with the tide. Dont play around.

I miss the French and her Small Mouth. They are some great fish and a heck of a fight.

To put in, go to the right side of Sullivans Island and park at the end around Fort Sumter I think. If you leave stuff on the beach, be wary the sand “shrinks” a good bit right there.

Hey UGABradN,

I’m new to the Charleston area. Like I just got here last week. My family moved from Charlotte. I love salt water fishing and especially catching Reds. I’d appreciate any tips on good locations and bait/rigging. I live near Limehouse bridge. I’d like to find good spots on the waterway from land, and surf fishing is my favorite! I love sand in my toes. Is there anything to be caught now? I’m hungry!
Thanks in advance.
