Trailer alignment?

I’ve got a Wesco trailer for a 17 ft Seahunt that wears tires out like nobodys business. Took it to a guy in the upstate and he said it could be 2 things: trailer needs alignment or the axle is bent. Checked around and can’t find anyone that can do alignments for trailers, so does anyone know of someone that can do them? Or is it just going to be that I need to pony up the $250 or so for the new axle? Any help would be appreciated.

Wesco is down here in W Columbia. Try giving them a call and see what they say.

The only alignment for a trailer is if the axle itself is square to the springs/frame. Check it with a builders square or measure the placement of the axle on each side to determine if it is true. Also measure the distances between the top, bottom, forward and rear of the tires to determine if the axle is bent.

Hope this helps.

That happens with my trailer if the air pressure is low on the tires. If they are kept at 50 psi or so, no problems. Could that be the problem?

Take a piece of string and go from the center front of the trailer (ball socket or tie it to the release lever) so its in the center. Run that string to the inside lip of the rim about in the middle. Use a sharpie and mark your string. Go to the other side and repeat. Loosen u bolts and shift the axle until both sides share the same mark.

If the axle is bent, you can try to straighten it but I have never seen them get 100% For the cost, just replace the axle.

Agree w/ Striperskiff. My trailer was also made by Westco and they were excellent to work with when I went back and got them to custom fabricate a bracket/roller for my transom saver. Also, I thought their cost was very reasonable.
