Trailer/Boat Question.

Hello,
I just moved to Mount Pleasant from Charlotte. I will bring my Lund Aluminum fishing boat with me. For the time being I’d like to use it on the inland lakes. That is until I figure out what salt boat to get. It has a painted steel trailer. Have any of you had any issues with rust storing something like this outside. I heard a few say the salt air will even put a hurting on the trailer, and I heard others say will be no problem. Just checking if any of you have any direct experience.
Thanks!

Any exposed metal will start to rust and spread quickly in our coastal environment. Scratches, hard edges where the paint is thin, bolt locations, etc. is where it will start. Get Ospho or some kind of rust converter, stay ahead of anything starting and you will be fine.

It is going to be an issue… With a perfect trail you might get 2 seasons without massive rust issues, but with one like mine with a few rust spots in the beginning of this season have turn into entire 3 foot sections with rust. Even the wheels that were in great shape with nicks around the lip, are now turning yellow.

I have been using the same galvanized trailer under my Jon boat since 2005. Ten years, I think I got my monies worth out of it. It will rust and you will have to change out the springs and lights every 3 or 4 years. Its a fact of life when dealing with salt water. Do what you can to keep it as clean as you can and you too can get 10+ years out of a galvanized trailer.

Thanks for the response!
