Trailer...fix or replace???

My aluminum trailer is 6 years old, replaced the leaf springs two years ago and they need it again…thinking about two options below, please give me some opinions…

1…replace with torsion bar, also need two new tires…est cost $850

2…buy a new trailer with torsion bar…est cost $1,800 (should be able to sell the old trailer for $400 to $600)

Leaning heavy towards the new trailer.

NOTE…Tires are not shot, but will not make it more then few more months.

I’d go new. Bunks, spindles and other hardware will be new again. 6 years in salt water take their toll on a trailer. Also you won’t have to deal with fitting your trailer with a new axle. Had a guy on Ashley Phosphate install one that was about 1/4" to narrow. Trailer would only give about an 1/2" before hitting bolts on trailer. Took it back and his fix was to grind down bolts holding trailer together.

He must have overheated the rubber on the torsion bar because the boat always rode cockeyed after that. You could get 3 fingers between the tire and fender on right side and were lucky to sqeeze one finger between tire and fender on left side. Hit a bump and the fender would only give an inch before hitting the fender. It was a F**king nightmare!

If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

Dang, leaf springs should last more than 2 years. I put new ones on about 21/2 years ago. I sprayed them with rubberized undercoating before installation. The ones I replaced were 6 years old. I wash my trailer good after every trip and try to dunk it in fresh about once a month.

Yeah, that is what I thought…The first ones lasted 4 years and these are ok, but the galvanized plate they are mounted to is warping and so on and so on…

Plus, my trailer goes in 150 to 200 times a year…times two for the taking out part…therein lies the problem Grasshopper, I think.
