That boat was homebuilt in northwest – Washington, I think. Builder bought the station wagon because it was cheap and had a flat roof, and he hauled the boat to San Diego where he launched and sold the car. He sailed down the west coast of Mexico and on to Nicaragua (I believe) then had the boat towed inland and sailed downriver to the Gulf. He sailed across the Gulf to Cuba – his description of his experience in Cuba is not that romantic – and on to Florida.
