Trailer needs adjustment,advice?

I have a 2000 Tournament 225 with bracket with an OX66 225. I bought a Venture trailer to go under the boat from a Grady Dealer. I told them the boat and asked them to adjust it accordingly. Venture VATB-5925 It does not have enough tongue weight and and will fish tales down the road at times, scary.

I have moved the wench as far forward as possible.

The boat hangs off the back of the bunks.

Does anyone know of an adapter to allow me to move it forward some more? If I move the bunks back would it change anything? I don’t think so. Move the axles back? A lot of work. Add a 100lb weight to the tongue? I can take it back to them but they are 2.5 hrs away.

Just looking for advice not bashing dealer.

I think preferred method isto move axle < > to adjust
balance and weight distribution and transom should be about even with bunks… may be wrong and sure I’ll be corrected if so!! [:I][:I]

Try moving the winch post forward to allow pulling the boat further onto your trailer.

It’s as far forward as I can move it without going forward beyond the I beams. Then it would be too far forward.

In front of the A frame is okay. This one is way in front.

Looks like you have 6 u-bolts that hold the axles in place - probably 3/4" nuts. Loosen them up, measure from the back of the trailer to 6" behind the last u-bolt and mark the trailer. Move the axles back in 6" increments until your tongue weight is between 7%-10% of the weight of the boat and trailer combined. Shouldn’t have to move it much to achieve what you’re looking for.

Your tongue is pretty short and while it is an option to move it forward, your bow pulpit would likely extend close to or beyond the coupler. That wouldn’t be safe and you need to buy parts to move it forward.

IMO that is a pretty expensive, I suspect new, trailer to begin modifying. Think I would look toward returning it for a slightly longer one. Just my two cents.

CS-Doug I had the same problem with my trailor…the boat did not belong to it…so I had to do everything, move the bunks width and height…When I got done…the boat hung over the bunks like yours…I simply moved the whole winch assembly in front of the “A” frame and then adjusted the height of that…I know you know this…but trailors have a range from 16’ to 22’ or a 22’ to a 27’ and so on…thats why all this stuff is bolt on stuff, so you can make adjustments…HOWEVER…be careful of too much tongue weight…It will eventually bend the aluminum tongue over time from all the front weight and the great SC potholes on the highway…the weight bouncing up and down on the tongue…will bend. Just from my experience and my 2 cents. Jim.

Perhaps replacing the piece that holds the winch might gain you 3-4 inches to move forward, but if I were you I’d follow loopervets advice. They are straight up and will not try to take advantage of you.

I have adjusted all that I feel comfortable with adjusting. Now it’s time to tow it to Charleston and get it fixed. I have a 50lb weight that I am going to attach to the front to get a little more weight for the time being. Thanks all.
