trailer tires

I have to replace all 4 tires and rims on my 23-Contender trailer this winter. I have bias tires now, but was considering going to radial when I replace. Any suggestions as to the advantages/disadvantages of radial vs. bias? Tire size is a 175/R13. I can get a good price on some Kendra Carrier brand radials, any one have experience with these?

Are you sure they are 13" rims. Sounds light for a tandum carrying 23 Contender. I have 15" radials on mine and think that it rides better than bias. Just make sure they have the load rating you need.

I like radial tires better…they are a lot more durable than bias. They do let the trailer sway a bit more over bias. Make sure the max load rating on your new tires are the same or close to the old ones

I had both. radials definiteley wear better but seems like they all wear odd…Radials ride better too

Thanks for the input, Ed any idea as to why the radials would sway more? Anyone have expereince with the Kendra Carrier brand?

typical radials have thinner sidewall but you can get speed rated tires that has stiffer sidewall and will help with the sway part. Speed rated tires normally take up to 50 psi of air. Always balance your trailer tires, even small ones… they pull better and don’t wear as bad

I replaced bias ply tires with radials this past Spring. The tire guy recommended that I get them balanced. They definitely do ride better though I have had to get used to them being a tad “mushier”. Even at full PSI, they seem to ride a little lower so when I look in my side view mirrors, they always look a little low.
