So I managed to pull the wires out of the old transducer rendering it useless. I have a Humminbird Legend 1000 and for what I typically do it seems to be great. However I have been enthralled with Phins’ posts about appropriately reading the bottom and although I don’t get to do much offshore, the few times I do get out to the General Gordon, Whitewater, Ross etc… I would like to be able to try some of what has been talked about. It looks like I have three options for a new transducer.
Any help? Any input on the different transducers? I am not opposed to/would consider trying a thru hull set up. Not necessairly the thru hull transducer but maybe the transom transducer epoxied in the boat? Is it worth it or should I just snake a new cable and leave it on the transom?

I have a shoot thru the hull transducer with my Lowrance, my first of this type, and I love it. Never loses readings, even at top speed. No worries about hitting it on anything.

You WILL lose some sensitivity and power shooting thru a hull versus a thru hull transducer. Just have to weigh between losing some sensitivity/power vs ease of instalation.
