Anyone successfully glued a piece of plastic (starboard or PVC type) to the transom to mount ducers on?
Should I just glue and screw a piece and not worry about more holes?

Guess I need to flame it to get stuff to stick to it. Thinking if I flame/glue and screw (properly), it should be okay forever.
Thoughts?

I don’t know about all that flame stuff, but I’ve had a Lowrance down/side scan transducer (which is rather long) attached to a 1/4" piece of plastic and glued to the step in my transom with 4200 for over 4 years with no problems. Just need to rough up the plastic on the side you plan to glue…then if you want to take it off, just use a small diameter stranded wire and work it like a saw between the plastic and the gel coat. Or if you want more strength just put two screws through the plastic into the transom. But honestly, I don’t see a need for the screws. Trick is to let the 4200 set up some before you press against the gel coat and then tape it in place for 24 hours.

Yes. I have a 17 Mako ProSkiff and the transom has a slight angle, so I got a piece of starboard cut like a wedge at the proper angle and epoxied it to the transom. Then I screwed the transom to the wedge. Been thee 3 years with no problem.

5200 to the transom will be there forever. I used a cheap cutting board from Wal-Mart and through bolted my transducer to it, instead of drilling into my transom. Been there about 8 years and am on my 2nd tranducer.

I used 5200 to glue a piece of PVC pipe over my transducer (blowing water higher than motor). It is still there and has been stood on

use 5200…whatever you do don’t drill a hole into the transom

I used starboard and 5200, rough up before applying. Will need to figure a way to hold starboard in place till 5200 sets up. I roughed up gel coat and starboard. I have used a thick piece of starboard and run stainless steel self tapping screws into that. Just make sure they are short enough not to hit gel coat. This gives you the ability to fine tune height without backing screws out of or redrilling into transom. Al I would like to see a picture of your rig. My neighbor has a Pioneer with a Garmin transducer and it soaks his cowling when he runs fast.
Don’t know if you’ve mounted it yet, but I just saw this. I have a stick-it anchor pin with I transom bracket, but don’t really want to drill, was thinking about going the route you discussed, but what do you thing of this? http://www.plugpads.com/sternpads/
