Transducer Replacement?????

When I bought my boat, it already had a fishfinder (Garmin 160 Blue). A few years ago I bought a new fishfinder/chartplotter (Garmin 441S). I spoke with Garmin and was told that the transducer I already had would work with my new unit so I kept it. Well, I noticed a couple of days ago that my transducer has broken and is hanging off my transom. It is an Airmar P66. A couple of questions:

  1. It is hard to tell but, is there a replacement part I can buy or
    is the transducer itself broken?

  1. The transducer is at least 10 year old. Would I just be better
off buying a new transducer & bracket?

  2. If I buy a new transducer, is this unit (Airmar P66) the best one
to buy or should I buy a Garmin brand?

  3. There is a little wheel on the opposite side of the transom. I
imagine this is the speed indicator for the old fishfinder. Since
my new Garmin has GPS, isn’t that what shows my speed which would
    negate the old “speed wheel”?

Any help, guidance, input or advice would be appreciated. My knowledge about this topic is limited.

Thanks

DF ; from what I see it dosen’t look like its repairable , might be able to find replacement through mfg !
My 2cts would be to replace with thru hull , they make them that just barely protrude “almost flush” to hull. Thru hull models preform
100% better IMO than transom mounts, you can also get shoot thru models that don’t require hole in hull , but i don’t think they give as clear an image and must be mounted with no air pockets in epoxy…
Just sayin…

I’m sure I could design and print those pieces but your best option is to find a replacement

I have an Airmar P66 in my garage I’m not using. I’d gladly make you a helluva deal on it. It is BRAND NEW.

If you replace the mount fill in the holes in the transom and then mount a piece of wood with 5200. I think I used a chunk of 2" X 2" and covered it in epoxy. Then mount the transducer to the wood…no more holes in the transom! Water WILL get in through those holes eventually!

I broke one like that and mounted it to a piece of stainless angle with epoxy and it has been 5/6 years and it still works well. I did away with the part on the transom and cut a v in the angle for the wire drilled a few holes for the epoxy to help hold

transducer is broken
the standucer units I don’t think are more than about $50 new, but looks like you have access to used one

Thanks all. So, with a Chartplotter/Sounder, I no longer need the separate wheel on the other side of my transom as the GPS will give me speed, is that correct?

Or, if I still need the wheel, I see the Airmar P66 comes with and without it.

Hey Buddy, what are you asking for yours and does it have the wheel or not?

wheel is no longer needed

I’m not 100% on the wheel, but I THINK it does…

They’re what, $120 new or so?

I’d take $50 for it probably.

Hey Buddy, if it has the bracket and is ready to install, I’d definitely be interested for that price. Seems while I don’t need the wheel, it won’t hurt if it is on there. I do need to check and find out how many “pins” my Garmin is to make sure it is compatible. Seems there are 6-pin, 8-pin, etc. I’ll investigate this weekend and holler back at you.

Thanks.
