Transom material for my wellcraft

I have heard some scuttlebut about foam core boards?? How they might be better than doing the marine wood, glass resin sandwich? I am going to need this transom to last a very long time and have read arguments going both ways. Opinions from experienced “structure” guys? I am starting this project in a few weeks…will take pics for progress

Only advantage to a 'foam core board" vs ply with fiberglass and resin is the weight savings. They say the foam won’t rot if penetrated with water vs wood will, BUT, over time the foam core WILL absorb water, even if a closed cell. Stick with the traditional plywood/glass for a transom. Have worked with a lot of different foam core boards in a actual boating enviornment, not just in a garage or something, and with something that takes a structural load like a transom the ply/glass will outlast every time and be a lot stronger.
