transporting rods

Anybody know a good way to carry one-piece rods in a truck bed?

There was a thread on this awhile back. One of the best was rack made out of pvc pipe several rows of open ended pipes (like rocket launchers)that slid into the back of the truck. Rods were transported in a vertical position.

Long Enuff

I am working on a design for a rack that will slide down into the holes on the rails that I can take it on and off. I’ll share once I finish because I have the same dilemma.

It would be great if there was a way to carry them horizontally so they wouldn’t stick up… I’d really rather not have my rod tip broken off

There’s a reason it’s not called catching.

You can also use the pvc pipe idea but angle them back.

Yeah that should work thanks I’ll try that

What kind of truck do you have? I just made one a few weeks ago that holds 14 rods and got everything too and from the keys without any issue and it allowed for luggage and other gear to be put underneath the racks. Ill post pictures later tonight.

Basically all it is 2 2x4’s with 15 1/2x1 spaces placed at around 3in intervals. In between each interval I placed some padding that is normally used to seal windows or doors. Then there are two more 2x4’s on the bottom with nothing on them. Near the edges (closer the tighter the fit) I drilled two holes to place a 6in bolt and washers. You tighten until the boards sandwich along the lip of the bed and it wont move. You can use a bungee or line to hole the rods in place but it worked GREAT on the way south. You can also see that this doesn’t take up any space in the bed of the truck. the rack can be moved forward or back to keep butts of rods from hitting truck. The 2x4’s also keep the rods from resting on the tailgate which allows you to operate the tailgate with the rods in place. Shoot me and email or PM if you have questions about it.
