Travel Rod Suggestions

Hey gang,
I’m looking to get a travel rod, mostly for when I head down to Florida/keys, but also when I’m lucky enough to travel to other locals such as Caribbean, mex, etc. I’m looking to see if anyone has experiences with a general purpose travel rod. Looking for one around 7’. I would like to have the ability to cast jigs and bucktails but still have the backbone in case something larger jumps on the line (jack, snook, small tarpon) I know there is no all around rod that is good at everything, I’m just interested in the middle ground. Looking to spend around $100, I wont be using it enough to justify the high end travel rods. Any input is appreciated.

Might consider a 2 piece. All my surf rods are 2 piece, even the 9’ rods fit in the trunk. I’m pretty sure most makers have them. I recently took a trip with 6 rods, 4-8’ & 2-9’. With the reels off all six rods banded together took up no more room then a big umbrella.

Hey dparker thanks for the response, though Im looking more for a travel rod I can carry on a plane, one that breaks down into atleast three or four pieces. I have many two piece rods but they are just to large to carry on a plane or to pack in a normal luggage bag.

Bishop,
I’ve got a four piece travel rod made by Wright and McGill. I think it was 50 bucks and its probably one of my favorites. It’s a spinning rod and you can flip the handle to convert to a fly rod. One rod for two different types of fishing. It’s a quality rod. I’ve caught fish in Mexico with it and I was impressed with its quality for the price.

Bishop,
We sell several spinning rods in travel(2 or 3piece) setups. Some of the 3piece rods would be made by St Croix and Wright and McGill. The St Croix is a nicer rod with more backbone and around 250(if memory serves) and the Wright and McGill 7’6" three piece rod is 130.00. Call me at the shop and I will be happy to help.

If you can add a bit to your budget, Shimano has some two piece Trevalas.

Thanks for all the input. Im going to check into some of those rods and will run by haddrells too to check out the action on the travel rods you carry.
