What size treble hook should I use for rigging live shrimp under a sliding float cork for trout fishing?

I can see using a #4 or #6. Killswitch, I don’t have a rod big enough for your hook.

as others said 4 or 6 should be plenty
You will kill some trout with trebles that shouldn’t have to die. Just sayin …

I used to use them 30 or 40 yrs ago when trout were plentiful but they’re too sparse now to take a chance on killing the little ones, also I always found the treble keeps the shrimp from swimming real good. Just my opinion. If you can find em a big gold hook,a little bigger than a crappie hook works good for me.

Agree with Marsh-Picker and Really Old. You won’t miss many of any type of fish with a #6 treble, but you will kill a lot of smaller fish trying to retrieve a deeply embedded hook. I used to use them a lot when I would fish DEEP under a slip float (12-25 ft.) with live shrimp but stopped after killing a bunch of non-keepers. A high quality Kahle hook 1/0-3/0 such as a Mustad UltraPoint, Gamakatsu or Owner will stick about as many.
