Triggerfish Closure

I wish people would have as much passion as you guys/girls do towards fishing restrictions towards our government on obuma care and all the other asinine crap going on. Maybe we need to go higher to get to the head of the snake. Those like Waugh and Cupka would never make it in a government that was for the working man/woman and not for self gain through offering the masses free stuff.

Edit: I had my first trigerfish when I was 6 years old. Very tasty fish.

skinneej, I am not saying you have threatened the council, but “kicking in the door and demanding their heads” could be considered threatening by LEOs at the meetings. We need a coordinated and peaceful group of fishermen to stand united rather than an angry mob of pissed off fishermen all saying something different. Would you be willing to talk on the radio, phone, or in person? I am meeting with groups of fishermen around NC and would be happy to come down to talk with you and anyone else interested in winning this battle for our freedom to fish and eat them.

Fred67, I have already started meeting with politicians running in 2014. We need to make this a campaign issue and get out the vote for public servants who will not only support our freedom to fish, but our freedom in general.
My wife’s favorite seafood is triggerfish. Fresh trigger blackened with a side of salad is hard to beat. Now consumers will lose access to this delicious local seafood for five months as thousands of triggerfish are discarded with damaged jaws from the required circle hooks that are extremely hard to remove from their small mouths covered with very tough skin. The council knew this closure would come and did nothing to prevent it. This gross incompetence/mismanagement is tantamount to pre-meditated government mandated animal abuse. Because individual council members are part of our government’s bureaucratic collective, nobody is held accountable. Enough people peacefully supporting a solution like the one I offered that’s based on input from fellow fishermen is the only way we will avoid this tragedy in the years to come. Catch Shares would not solve this problem as fishermen without shares for triggers would have to discard every one we catch.

You are right about asinine crap there. The republican party is head deep in it! Yee haw!

It sucks all the way around…this why I support changing the “Act” and getting rid of the current council appointment system in general, and having it replaced with a board on 16 (4 each state) that are 3 elected just like the rest of our “representatives” and 1 serves from Dept of Natural Resources.

Commerical rep
Recreational rep
For-Hire rep
Nat Resources appointment

Non-partisan…equal vote, equal representation, if the vote splits, drop out the Nat Resources appointment vote to equal 12, if the vote splits again…the amendment is dead must start over with public scoping and input.

I like your idea DandG, but I think permit/license holders should be the ones electing who represents us. Are you interested in working on the SAFMC’s Visioning Project? Are you planning to attend the upcoming council meetings in August and September?
