Anyone successful catching triggers without running 20 miles out? I’m taking some friends to the 60 next weekend and would love to find some triggers… I’m not looking for numbers just encouragement.
Not sure I understand your question. You mention “ledge” which is 50+ miles out, but then say 20 miles… That being said, we caught all the triggers you could want in 100’ last time out.
I haven’t fished the 60 in a while, but I caught a few triggers last time I did.

Don’t listen to Skinny, triggers are bycatch for someone with his skill level…Next he’s gonna tell ya he caught em on sabiki rigs.
I’ve caught them at the 60. Not regularly though. Of course I’ve caught dolphin cobia and sailfish there as well. I wouldn’t target them there though.

You can certainly catch some on the DNR reefs, but you’ll have more opportunity out around 100’ on some of the live bottom patches. At least we do.

Caught one trigger at the 60 on Monday, on menhaden.

I’ve caught a few nice triggers at Capers myself, but was catching more baby BSB’s and lizardfish than anything else there. Not to mention those biting flies ran us out of there. Even had a Cobia try to eat one of those lizards right at the boat. You’ll definitely do a lot better on the triggers out deeper.

Triggers love the large sibikis. Try it some time, the biggest sibiki they sell. I have caught and landed undersized scamps and gags before on them as well. Sent them home of course.
