Trim and Tilt Wifi Control

I am constantly forgetting to raise my outboard motor. Either getting ready to pull out of the water (gotta get back in the boat) or hooking it up to trailer down to the coast (gotta get out of my truck). So I decided I would develop a way to control the T&T with my phone using a Wifi connection.

The link below is a video demonstrating the prototype that I completed this weekend. There are few more small things to finish up but its ready for a field test! I welcome ■■■■■■■■.

Getting rich would be nice! But I have a lot of testing to do. If anyone is interested in helping me test please send a PM.

What happens if you butt dial your T&T while running 70 down the interstate? That could get ugly!

Yes are several use cases that need to be addressed. I am working on a section of code that monitors run time of the T&T motor. My motor takes 6-7 seconds to get to full tilt. The code will reboot the MCU if the motor runs for more than 4 seconds. The reboot shuts down the T&T motor, disconnects the client(your phone), and requires reconnecting to engage control.

What are typical full tilt run times for others?

Have you seen Mercury’s Active Trim product?

No I have not seen Mercurys Active Trim. As usual I’m always late to the party!!!

All they need is to integrate an Access Point with a web server and control. I’ll keep working on my idea though. Thanks for sharing!

Yes thats the way it should be done! I don’t know…I am almost 50 and I cannot remember a (**() thing from one minute to the next. But I can still code like a sum *****!!!

Yes I feel the same way…When I drove my Stratos (120HP) there was something about working the trim to get it up to speed (60MPH). There was a sweet spot and it was a lot of fun to drive. I don’t think a “sweet spot” for a boat to get full speed can be automated.

The Mercury Active Trim will be great for captains or people drive a boat day in day out.

I am working on integrating a gyroscope to monitor the angle of the motor. The sensor is connected and communicating I just need to display the angle value. I am not sure how I will use this data yet but I think it will help with moving the motor to a preset position so you don’t have to press an hold the button.
