trim button on throttle control issue

trim button on the side of the motor goes up and down, just as it should…but on the throttle handle I can only trim down, not up…seems to be a short in the throttle handle…have never taken my control box off so not sure what I’m in for but hoping it’s something relatively easy like a short at the switch…any pitfalls or advise?

its usually the switch in the handle
unplug the thre wires red blue green under the console
use a paper clip and jump between the red and the blue on the motor side of the unplugged harness
motor should go up
if it does, its a switch or wire in the handle
if it doesnt its in the boat harness

Be careful, if you unplug the wires in the wrong order it could explode!

Just kidding.

chris V is right. It’s probably the switch. That’s the most often used switch on the boat. The contact is probably corroded or crushed. Should be easy and cheap to fix.

My advice is to drag this seemingly simple task in to a half day excuse to drink beer in the driveway and avoid undesirable items on the honey-do list. One time it took me a whole weekend to get the air pressure right in all 4 tires on my truck.

What he said. Heck, buy enough beer and you can throw a “Fix Bonzo’s Trim Switch” Party. We’ll either make it better or worse.

sometimes I just lay a bunch of wrenches and screwdrivers out in the garage so when the wife comes out it looks like I’m working on something…think I even had a sleeve of Girl Scout cookies in the mix the other day and she just thought I was working on something really hard!
