Trim creaking and popping sounds...

Ok so I have a Yammy Vmax150 and initially when I trim down for the first time on a fishing trip, my trim makes some creaking and popping sounds. It sounds pretty awful yet it only does it on the first time. Afterwards I can use the trim a dozen times, almost all the way up and back to bottomed out and it doesn’t make the noises again until my next trip. Anyone had any similar issues? Is this something to be concerned with? Is it an easy fix that I can do in my driveway? Tell me what ya know! Thanks in advance.

Do you run the motor all the way up when you dock or trailer it? If you do, set the locking lever and then run the ram posts all the way down into the Hydraulic Cylinders. Keeps them from becoming dry! See if that helps! Doesn’t cost a dime!

My Suzuki does the same thing and has been doing it since I owned it. It doesn’t bother me any more. Like you said, it only does it the first time I trim it down, after that, it’s fine. I believe the rod is just dry and the wiper is just groaning a little.

Rub a little grease on them, then cycle. Seems to help lubricate the outside of the seals.

biggest issue is usually where the “trim” rams make contact with the mid section bracket. the aluminum is rubbing against the end of the steel ram grease that spot

Thanks for the insight for sure! Just use the same blue marine grease I use every where else?

Grease the rams, themselves? Mine happens fairly frequently, but i have to keep adding fluid to the trim motor. Can’t figure out where the leak is, but I keep getting air into the lines bad.

What Chris V said!
Very common problem.

Thanks makes more sense, Grease the “cup” the rams contact. I guess when I greased the whole thing I inadvertently fixed my problem.

Thanks again you guys…Worked like a champ!
