How important are trim tabs on a CC like a Pioneer 197 SF with 150 hp? We’ll go out 25-30 miles some on good days, but spend more time in/near shore.
Thanks,
OM
They can make a big difference in the boat’s performance, fuel efficiency, riding comfort and even safety when offshore as you can trim the boat to the sea conditions. I’ve never seen a planing powerboat that trim tabs didn’t improve the overall performance of.

That boat will perform like a dream with tabs. I cant understand why they are not standard equipment. I have installed atleast 6 sets here locally
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. FISH 24/7---- 25 Grady w/ a couple of Gas Guzzling 175 Johnsons “O-SEA-D” the old “Havanadaydream”

I have them on my pioneer…they are worth it it makes a huge difference on the ride in choppy seas.
Downside on mine, replaced one Actuator last year and just replaced the other last week.

O-Sea-D put 12x12 edge mounts on my 197sf a couple of years ago. The 12x12 edge mounts are larger than what you need for a boat that size but they made it possible to mount the actuator arms lower and avoid cutting into the swim platform. Best investment you can make in that boat.
If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

Get them. Worth every penny.
Ill second that!
i have been talking to the man over at bennett (tom bennett) about a set on my 20ft center… he actually suggested their new line. the slt10 for my boat… i am not 100% sure what your boat is setup for or your personal use. but i wil chime in with this.
our conversation was with the m120 vs the slt10
my question to him
i know i asked about the m120 kit which is proably amazing but i see you offer a slt kit that i would assume is not adjustable. my boat is a proline 20ft cc with a 150hp 2 stroke. its really a river/bay boat… would the m120 be over kill should i lok into the slt kit more.
i was dead set on the lowrance gen 2 touch till i talked to a few people and a few chatts with a local boat yard and i was directed more towards the new elite 7. im wondering if the slt will do the job just fine.
his answer
that’s a good question! It really depends what you want the Trim Tabs to do for you. I had the M120s on my 20ft Aquasport Walkaround and my boating was a lot like yours, lots of bay and intracoastal running and occasionally open water.
The M120s allowed me to control the boat’s attitude side to side, which was great since my family moved around and I did not always have to tell them were to sit! The SLTs can not adjust for side to side changes as you are running so that is one thing to consider.
On the bays there was always a lot of chop when there was any wind and the M120s let me hold the bow down at lower speeds which really helped. The SLTs will also give you this benefit.
A did a lot of pulling kids in tubes and skies and really liked how I could get a big or small wake by adjusting the M120. You really can’t do that with the SLTs, but both systems will give you a better holeshot (helpful pulling a slalom skier up).
Ok, so the bottom line?
SLTs are a good option if you want a better holeshot and the ability to run on plane at lower speeds. The SLTs are less expensive and take less time to install, but they do less.
so with that said it comes dow nto what u plan on
Thanks for the good information; it fits with what I’d heard. Will definitely get some.

I agree…if you’re gonna that boat in the ocean you will want trim tabs…

Get the adjustable electric version, You wont believe the necessary adjustments that you will make and it will become like second nature for you to run your boat at optimum performance continuously. They were very foreign to me when I first got my boat but by the second time out it was obvious what adjustment the boat needed and I had full control. and in the ocean on rougher days I could put my nose down a little and it would eat the chop better and give me a better ride.
