Launched from IOP marina about 3PM on Saturday. It was a little breezy and chilly but we were prepared. Took us about 2 hours to get out to the south end of the island even though we were running with the outgoing tide. We paddled out the inlet and around to the beach front and landed in the surf just in front of the old dredging float, where we made camp. Just enough time to unload the boats before darkness set in. Made a meal of steaks, potatoes, and caesar salad. Only one brief visit by coons around 2 am followed by a couple of spells of rain.
After breakfast we tried fishing the little creek that runs along the impoundment with no luck. Tried several spots around the island but the wind made fishing a little problematic. Ended up doing a little exploring and napping on the island.
We headed back to IOP after breakfast on Monday stopping to fish a couple of spots along the way, still no luck.
Had a blast tho, while I wish we could have caught some fish, it was still incredible to get out and have a good time.
Thanks to Fritz and Cutmullet for offering help if we needed it, glad we didn’t have to meet under those circumstances.
The surfing was good, firewood was plentiful, and the stars on Sunday night were spectacular.
