Alrighty…Casuarina Pt. is supposed to be a secret!
Stayed several times and it is sweet with lots of big bonefish!
Great place for sure but I hear the point now has some new houses overlooking the flat.
We used to walk or drive from the house down tot he point and walk out through the Australian pines to the flat.
Conveniently located to Pete’s and there is some incredible live bottom just out Sound and holy moly the bluewater fishing just a couple of miles out.
Caught a 160 YFT on standup a few years ago…what a day!

Didn’t realize twas a secret! Only saw 2 other anglers in a week, and ah didn’t see no bent rods cept mine! I tell ya this though point of spit has got some super difficil pescados!

Yeah, not easy for sure! You venture out to Duck Key?
Amazing how a school of 100 bonefish working the tide up onto the sand will refuse a fly isn’t it?
My best on the point was about 6.5#…there are many much larger than that there.
They have probably gotten more difficult over the years as they see more anglers too.

You know I fished at what is called Point of Spit and saw hundreds of bones feeding and tiling, tried a bunch of techniques and switched a bunch of flies finally got mine on a small raghead crab pattern, I asked my guide that I went out with @ the end of the why they are so tough to catch because i only saw 2 other anglers the whole week and that was only like one day. He said that he had been chasing bones for over 30 years and that he has always known or been told that those fish are just plain tough to catch. Said for every bone you take in that area is like 10 in the marls. Seems to me that it is something more than angler pressure? Maybe they are just smarter, or scared?

dem some nice bones brudda!!

www.flyfishingsc.com

most of the fish in the Marls are younger and smaller and a lot more eager to eat.
I was @ Casuarina last in 2003 and caught 9 fish from the spit over a week.
They will drive you nuts for sure!

Thats for sure but there are tons of em and I like stickin em out in the open where they can really run instead of wrappin up in the mangroves!
