Went out this afternoon once the rain stopped looking for some reds on a new flat I just discovered a few weeks ago. No reds but managed this guy somehow…
I wonder how old that fish is? Looks like an oldster!

Nice. Only caught 3 of those in the past 10 years around the Charleston area.

I’ve only caught one and it was about that size. Tore my hand up trying to get him off the hook. I learned the hard way that those things have barbs behind their gill plate.
Very good eating.

Congrats that’s awesome! Did you see him or just happened to bite? How far from charleston were you?

Nice. We usually try to get at least one for the table every weekend fishing trip.
No I never saw him, it was a small bite and I was near the harbor
The folks that know about these know about them and wish to keep them a secret.
Excellent tablefare.
very cool. gnarly looking fella there
Nice and knowledge to me that they hang out inshore. The challenge is always on when fishing saltwaters

what did u catch him on?
Frozen finger mullet on the bottom
Nice…I’d take a tripletail over 3 reds any day.
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
Great table fare right there. One of the best! I wish I could catch one on every fishing trip.
