Yup. On purpose too!!! Saturday. It was hot. Floated a mud minnow under a popping cork by a buoy.
Nice. Did you see it before floating the minnow?
I saw one at the buoy as I drove by. Fought that one but he won the battle. Bigger than the one you see. Threw back and caught the one in the picture.
Those fish pull hard. Had a blast. Went back Sunday. Caught 2 more. Smaller. They eat great. No, really - top shelf eating. Flaky white fillets like grouper. I think it’s as good as sea bass. The wife doesn’t agree. It’s not the first time.
That is a very nice fish. Congrats!! Have to try that one of these days myself.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me “sir” without adding, “you’re making a scene.”

Niiiice… Biggest one i have ever seen…
Where did you catch it–generally. I didn’t think they came this far up. Great eating fish
That is Daufuskie Island in the background. I put in at the Alljoy ramp on the May River in Bluffton.
I wonder if they are moving north. I caught an 8 lb. last year near Goergetown. Lost a couple more.

You can catch them in Savannah, but you really don’t see them this far north in Charleston.

Depends on how hard one looks.
You can look all you want they are a rare occurrence, not worth the effort to fish for here.
Must have imagined this guy. Saw 8, hooked 3, broke off 2 boated 1.
