Got to the GT hole a little after sunrise and were met with overcast skies and at least 20 other boats. The bite was slow to say the least and by late morning we decided to head south to the SW Banks. The sun finally came out and the bite turned on. First in the boat was a slinger Mahi and as we were getting things situated, the way back line takes off. After a short fight, a Blackfin is in the boat. The bite slowed back down for an hour or so and just as we’re ready to call it a day, the short rigger pops and it’s on again until the line goes slack. The pre-rigged seawitch (with wire leader) actually broke. A minute later, the long rigger takes off but whatever is on throws the hook. Before we can get the line reset, the way back gets hit and we’re finally hooked up. We then see what’s been taunting us as a sailfish tailwalks across the spread. After about 15 minutes we get it to the boat. After some celebration we get the hook out and successfully release it. This was my first billfish ever so needless to say I was pretty excited. What a great way to end the day. My buddy was using his GoPro camera and got some pretty awesome video. Some still shots from the video are attached.
