Left the dock at 0500 to a pretty smooth ride out. 15 minutes after the lines were in the planer goes off and we have a wahoo in the boat - maybe 50-60 lbs but I’m terrible at guessing. The rest of the morning we had a few more knockdowns but couldn’t keep them hooked up. Around 2:00 the shotgun goes off and we pull in a nice sized blackfin. I’m guessing around 25-30 lbs. Another knockdown or two with no joy and we finished the day with a decent mahi. Headed in late with a rough ride in.
Yes, you are correct, you are terrible at estimating weights! The wahoo is nowhere close to 50 lbs. It’s probably much close to the 40lb mark. However, the blackfin that you got was an absolute STUD and you probably should have weighed him in for the trident tournament. I think you can get a handscale for around $20 to keep on the boat.
Yeah I knew the tuna was a big one. I have a cheap rusty spring scale on the boat that I don’t really trust but the tuna showed about 28 lbs on it. Didn’t weigh the wahoo but it felt like at least 50 lbs - I guess I could be wrong.
