Trolling 5/26 & 5/27

Headed north Sunday to SW Banks looking for a temp break offshore. Never found it, water was blended. Fairly slow, caught some dolphin and a couple blackfins. Jumped off a whitey. Pulled the hook on a big bull. Slow out deep, best bite in 200’ - 300’.

Monday fished straight out and deep. Caught a couple dolphin, then spotted a bunch of birds working a bait ball. Tunas were rocketing through the bait and birds diving hard–true National Geographic scene. Pulled the baits at 9 knts to intercept the bait ball (which was moving fast)–as soon as I was over it was chaos.

Outrigger pops out–I run back and put it in free. Nothing. I am reeling it in and out of nowhere, a blue piles on. Pull a little drag then gone.

Then, almost instantly, the left long and right short pop at the same time–two blues munching. I feed mine and get a hook in, and he is screaming drag on the Avet 50 and greyhounding hard right. My buddy pulls the bait away from his fish as we settle in for the fight. Of course the (**() hook pulls after a long series of jumps…oh well.

We picked at the dolphin from then on. Fish were scattered from 700 - 1200 ft. We ended with 14.
