Trolling Advice Inshore/Creeks and Rivers

can someone point me to a feed that talks about best practices when it comes to trolling inshore for trout and flounder. one issue im trying to figure out is how to know how far out to let my line?

im sure there are a ton of posts about this, and I want to learn. ive tried to troll a couple of times but have never seen success.

any help would be appreciated.

I go back just far enough to where i am constantly dragging the bottom then a few more feet back.
