Went trolling with BugCatcher, Reelfish, and Adam on Sunday and ended with a great mixed bag. Trolling started out fine but the bite abruptly shut down so we headed into 110’ for some dives. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. We probably could have ended up with more bugs and grouper but I had my regulator go into freeflow early into the 2nd dive so I had to get the heck out of there. Adam could have stayed and shot more as well but the big hog broke his spear shaft in two pieces.
Like a monkey ready to be shot into space:
14’ Pamlico 140 Angler w/ rudder
Kayak, SCUBA, or both.
wonder were you been s4g, just finished up some hog and cuberra snapper for dinner, hog hands down! I know skinnieej dosen’t have these #s. I haven’t dove them in quite some time and they were loaded with cuberra snappers, I haven’t seen him or any one else post about those fish! I didn’t even know they were in SC. Tons of them down there, very evasive. the reds were so thick, we gut shot a good gag and the ars were eating him alive under a rock which is how we found him again. the gags were thick and we were like kids in a candy shop! the phin bite has been very iffy and not sure if we will troll much with the diving so good rite now. Give me a call, we are planning a trip across the stream for wahoo in feb if your crew is int. 3 or 4 boats going! two day trip out of Ft. Ld.
BugCatcher,
the Cuberas are likely Mangroves. Mangroves look very similar, but have a different tooth pattern. If they were all in the size range you mentioned, they are more than likely Mangroves. I’ve only shot 1 Cubera this year and 1 hybrid, but we’ve been murdering the Mangroves. More this year than I’ve ever seen. That’s the more likely culprit. Check out the different tooth patterns on line. One’s pointy and one’s not so pointy. Hope that helps and keep up the good work! PS, Mangroves nor Cuberas are banned…yet.
Had a blast just got back into town for another week so give me a holler if y’all go out this weekend!! Jordan I will check my stuff tonight and let you know about the carabiner.
