Trolling and swivels

I have only trolled 5 or 6 times, and I haven’t had anyone teach me the ropes. I’m going with trial and error for now. One annoying thing that happened once was getting my line twisted into about 80 billion kinks. The line had wrapped around the hook on my lure and I probably pulled it like that for a mile or two. I ended up cutting a lot of line off my reel.

What do you guys recommend to eliminate the twisting? I’m thinking a barrel swivel between my line and leader should work, but I’d like to get some input from some of you guys that have more experience with trolling.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

spro swivels work great

May want to look at how your bait is rigged to reduce twist as well.

I have never had any twisting issues and I troll almost everywhere I paddle. But I am trolling lead heads with grubs too. I normally troll with my rod in my forward rod holder. Turned to one side just a tad and the rod with a good steap angle on it. That way I can watch the rod and no hitting the rod or line while I paddle. This works well for me and I almost always snag a little something when I am heading to or from somewhere.

When trolling or fishing if using a braded line I always use a 15 or 20LBS leader before the lure/bait or float

The braded line always gets tangled when tied directly to the Jig Head or Lure

I use a Woven Surgeons knot for braded to leader line and if trolling or using a circle hook a NON SLIP LOOP KNOT

Thanks guys. I always use a leader when live bait fishing. I guess I’ll start using a leader when trolling lures too. Thanks for the input.
