I have been trolling downriggers with spoons and Alabama Rigs during the day and catching my limit. But after the sun goes down in the evening I don’t get any bites. What do most people troll at night and have success with? Thanks in Advance

Chris, when i used to troll (couple times a year in the summer…lol…) i found that color played an important roll after the sun went down. Tim told me that or one of his friends (cant remember) but i think dark colors during the day and bright or light colors after dark. Maybe Tim CV an clarify…
Have also seen the style of bait wanted by the fish change at night as well. We could use bucktails or swimbaits during the day then at night switch to plug style baits like the slivers, grandmas, and jakes…

I would definitely ditch the spoons and U rig after dark and go to plugs.
I haven’t done a whole lot of trolling with the DR’s during the day, but from what I have, what seems to matter more than color, is the size of the plug. I’ve never done much good with some of the larger plugs like a big Rapala or Sabile during daylight hours and normally stick with spoons if I do.
Lately, they are really turning on from right before dark until about 30 min after (8:45 - 9:30 or so). They still bite after that, but goes to more of a slow pick.
I haven’t really been using the larger plugs much lately even after dark. I’ve been doing real well lately using a 6 3/4" Diawa Salt Pro Minnow. Rapala F18’s are good too and about one of the most consistent fishing catching plugs I have.
Heading out this evening with a boatload of newbies from work. Hopefully I didn’t just jinx us saying how good it’s been.
I’ll post a report either way… LOL

Guys Thanks for the advice. I may not be doing so bad but as Striper Skiff stated I am doing really well right before dark and then usually slows way down after that. I think I may have been trolling in the same area as Striper Skiff tonight. I picked 3 up around 8:30 pm and didn’t get a hit after that. I headed out at 9. Thanks for the help guys!! I love this fishery and wish I lived closer!!!

We only landed a few last evening also. Missed a few others after popping the release and lost another at the boat.
