I also have a Minn Kota (RipTide) 80lb. 24V I purchased optima spiral wound AGM
34M series in 2009 and still deliver great performance. (abt. $310.00 ea.) I also bought a cranking battery at about the same time with not so good results. So last year after a lot of research I purchased a Sears Platinum Deep cycle (31M series), hopefully this will last a little longer.
Sears 31M / 100 amp. hrs. Abt. $270.00
Sears 34 M / 68 amp. hrs. Abt. $220.00
Hope this helps.

Had the same setup and used Interstate srm27 deep cycle batteries. They aren’t sealed but they worked great for 3 seasons and are pretty cheap. There’s an Interstate shop in N Chuck.

X2 on the Interstate batteries…been using them for the last six years…normally get 4-5 years out of a set. The interstates I have are bigger than the normal batteries(believe they are size 34 instead of 27) and are sealed. Best place I’ve found price wise is Lake Murray Hdw in Ballantine, right in front of the Food Lion.

WalMart. Size 24 Deepcycle. A little smaller than the 27 group, but plenty of power. I couldn’t justify the high cost of the Sealed batteries.
Secure them properly in a battery case and charge them immediately after each use. Use the extra money to pay the taxes on your boat, motor, fuel, etc.

Even if you’re not gonna use the boat for a while?

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

The immediate charging is necessary to prevent or remove sulfate deposits on the plates which will reduce the batteries’ capacity to recharge. They also need topping off when being stored for long periods because of the natural loss of charge. I charge mine monthly or after each use. I am not a physicist or a mechanic. But this article from West Marine looks like it was written by one. http://m.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/WestAdvisorView?langId=-1&storeId=11151&page=Battery-Charging#.Uw-qntNOnFo

Go see Ralph Phillips at Santee Industrial Supply in North Charleston. He will get you set up! Just had 3 size 27 deep cycle batteries added to my boat. They installed everything nice and neat. Good people to work with and one of the best fisherman in our area.

My Odyssey Trolling Thunder AGM batteries are still good but when I replace them I will definitely consider the Sears Marine Diehard. They are supposedly and obviously the same battery made by the same company for less money. Last time I looked, the Odyssey had better performance numbers than same size Optima

Sears marine deep-cycle diehards are the ticket. A++.
