Give me some basic info please…I use a 1/2 oz. double rig (sly’r spoon on rear) but usually pretty shallow–say 15 ft and casted alot of time but trolled some time …What weight bucktail? how deep? How much line out? Weighted? Tell me more about lead core line…I’ve never used it. Thanks!!!
Never have used lead core line. Expensive and a pain is all I have ever heard. The new super braids will send everything deeper. the hard part is to actually determine how deep you are trolling a given lure at a particular speed. You can determine this with a buddy boat following, or by dragging on a known bottom.
I use a counter to let out line for trolling, 100, 80, and 60 ft would be my norms. I also use trolling weights, and down rigger. Bucktails are on a u rig. Never have trolled a single, but would tyhink a 1/2 oz would not go deep at all. In salt, we woudl troll a 3 or 4 oz buck tail.
Good luck, just my $.02

Trolled bucktails yesterday on Murray for about 2 hours, caught 7, kept 1. Just used single bucktails. Fish were schooling right at dark.

Doublej, you’ll need info sooner or later, pal. I could see it if this was a largemouth forum where the fish are territorial but c’mon dude, these are stripers…here today and gone tomorrow…You cant possibly catch them all.

I figured it out all by my lonesome sunday. I caught more trolling than I did on down lines. I didnt need down riggers or lead core line or any crap like that either. ![]()
