Trolling for trout

What types of rigs do you use when trolling for trout from a kayak? Live, artificial, popping cork, weights? I’ve tried with shrimp but cant seem to keep the depth right.

I like to use paddle-tail jigs…with the same weight as I’m throwing for the day, usually 1/8-oz., just got to let out a little more line to get the depth right. I find that I have success trolling along grass edges and creek mouths… 7’ of water seems to be the magic number for me!

Try the Yo-zuri Sashami minnow SW they work great trolling behind a kayak. Prefer the submerge.

1/8 oz is all i have ever used. I try to match my soft plastics with the water color. I really like the “redbone” from Z-man when the water is darker and usually a electric chicken (like a pink and yellow/green) when its a little clearer. When they are biting i feel like they will hit just about anything but what elgeebee said, depth is the key. 6 ft of deeper is my rule of thumb. Trout bite has been weird for me this year. Seems like I either catch a bunch or nothing at all.

All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.
