Trolling from the yak

I am just starting to fish from the yak. I have caught only 1 redfish under a dock with an electric chicken sea shad. Yesterday I tried to troll along the marsh grass at high tide hoping for some trout. I had no luck and I wondered if anyone else has luck doing this. If so what do you use for your lure? Gold spoon, Spook top water, etc? Do you try to keep a slow pace or do you vary your speed, etc?

Cat…troll, troll, troll, if you have the chance to troll then do it. If I don’t have live bait at the time I’ll troll with a lead head with a grub on the bottom and a lead head and grub under a float. Out front either live bait or spoons.

How do you live bait and where do you keep the live bait? I
I am getting a Hobie Adventure and would like to use menhaden but how?

some yakers have live wells set up in there yaks. I don’t, I’ve got a three foot cast net and use it as needed with a bait bucket. If I catch a small blue or whiting then its on the hook and I out side trolling with it.

i use to troll in yaks with my cousin “lil joe” in hobcaw <mt. p> we would do really well with electric chix and chartreuse grubs right next to the grass. maybe 4 feet off-just paddle enough to keep lines tight and let the current take you. remember where the current swirls, makes the bait disoriented-ambush spot for trout. also some flounder that way too.
