I’m finally getting around to purchasing a Minn Kota trolling motor and believe I have one picked out. I believe a 48" shaft with 55lb thrust will be just about right as it fits the suggested specs off the Minn Kota website. What do other Seapro owners have? Of course the more thrust the better but is anyone else running the 55lb?
I kind of have the same issue. 55 will work for my boat weight per minn kotta site but does it take into account if your going against the current or wind?
I don’t own one of those but I am familiar with those boats. A 12v 55lb would be the bare minimum on that boat, you’ll be happy with it near slack tide but when the current is moving the best you’ll be able to do is control your drift. Ifs there’s any room to go 24v I’d do it.
I’d recommend 80lb thrust if you can swing it. Especially with our current and tides.
Have to agree on at least an 80. With a 55 it will have to be set on high at best

Didn’t own the sv1700 but did have a 2000 170cc for three years. I added trolling motor setup after the first year and it was the best thing I ever did to improve my fishing experience.
I’d recommend you go with at least 70lb thrust. I opted for the ipilot, worth the money, with 70lb thrust. Loved it and moved the boat very well. Yes, you’ll need two batteries but the extra power is worth the weight.
It’s been said on this forum many times: No one ever complains about too much thrust, but many complain about not enough.

I own a SV1700, well until I sell it. I have a riptide 80# 3x hand steer on it. I personally felt it was the best match for the boat down here. I never had problems fighting wind and tides in the harbor. It could also fish all day long on a set of batteries (walmart specials). It was rare I’d need max power but nice to have when needed. When I replace my tm on the newer boat I’ll step up to a motorguide xi5.
YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY WITH A 55#
I HAVE A 169 BACKCOUNTRY FLATS BOAT WITH A 55# AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF TIMES I NEED MORE.
70# OR MORE
55# WILL WORK, BUT IT WILL LACK

Thanks everyone for the responses - I ended up getting a 80lb thrust Minn Kota and it works like a dream in the Charleston currents and even wind. I-pilot features also well worth it. Mounting it was a pain but finally came up with a great solution. Time to fish!!
