Trolling motor batteries

I have an 18’ Hewes LT, and I am looking for the best trolling motor batteries that will fit in the console under the front seat. When I got it, it had 2 of the compact batteries in it, and I’d like to replace then with something that size because of the lack of space. I’d appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Can’t speak from experience but people I know like those GEL CELL
batteries and I think they are physically smaller by a little.

OPTIMA MARINE BATTERY 240-300.00

About a month ago I bought a Northstar Pure Lead AGM for my 12v motor and have been very pleased. Not cheap by any means though. Mine is a group 31, so definitely not compact. Depending on the space, you’ll need to figure out what group size battery you can fit and then go from there.

If you have a “Batteries Plus” store near you, it may be worth your while to see what they have.

Good Luck

The batteries plus x2 power, link below, is the same battery as the Northstar I bought.

No offense meant to the Optima fans, from my readings of suggestions other places around the internet the optima folks seem very brand loyal. But the Optima Blue top group 31 has some of the worst, least powerful specs of 20+ batteries I compared in a spreadsheet before I made my battery purchase.

Food for thought, for anyone looking at Group 31 TM Batteries. Sorted by reserve capacity. If there’s dash that means I couldn’t find the spec listed.

If you are looking for a compact battery to fit in an existing tray, try the Odyssey line and in particular the PC1200. This is the battery many Florida flats/skiff builders use. It has less reserve capacity than a group 31 but it is half the weight and has a smaller footprint. I have three in my boat that are over 7 years old and are still going strong. These are AGM batteries so they require a slightly different charging profile than wet batteries so check your charger to make sure it is compatible.

Thanks guys!
