Trolling Motor Batteries

Thanks, darn I was there yesterday!

I just purchased 2 group 27 DC Duracell marine batteries from Sams yesterday for $61 each. They are the same as DEKA which I had before that are now $139 made by East Penn Manufacturing.

For everyone’s information, Walmart’s batteries are not all manufactured by the same company. They use different manufacturers based on location to help with shipping costs.

I’ve posted this link before, but here it is again. You can find out who makes which battery…

FYI, if you want some serious battery capacity, and have the space, drop down to 8 volt or 6 volt batteries.

My trolling motor batteries are 2 years old this month and I have been considering replacing them based upon that. But should I? It is a 3 battery, series 27, 36V system. I haven’t had any issues, but I do notice that the batteries will show a full charge when I leave the house and at some point during the day (sometimes sooner than I would expect), the remote control shows a very low charge. I would estimate it to be between 10-20%, but I can still fish for many hours on that and it has not quit on me yet. So, It hasn’t affected me yet.

I checked the water level in the batteries, no issues there, 1 cell may have been 1 teaspoon of water low.

is the charge level dropping off quickly a sign for “time to replace”?
or do I have a potential low charge indicator issue?
Just keep using them until they start to quit working while I am fishing?

You’re going to get what you pay for. I just put 2 VMAX MR147-155 12V 155AH AGM Deep Cycle Hi Performance Batteries in my pontoon. 300.69 each free shipping from BarginShore online. They Last 8 to 12 years. Something that will last all day crappie fishing. I have 2 other 110AH VMAX for starting and electronics, lights.

BOB I think they weigh 90 lbs each. they are heavy.

TAKE THEM TO A BATTERY SERVICE CENTER AND HAVE THEM CHECKED !! IT COULD BE THAT THEY HAVE DEVELOPED A MEMORY IF YOU CHARGE THEM BEFORE THEY ARE TRUELY LOW ON CHARGE. THEY MAY NEED TO BE EQUALIZED…
