Trolling motor battery charging???

OK…my dual charger bit the dust. I have a 24 volt system rigged in tandom. Do I need to disconnect the batteries and charge one at at time OR charge one and then the other while still connected. I should know this, but never even thought of it.

if you are charging them with a 12volt charger then you need to disconnect them from each other and charge one at a time. just take one of the pos to neg lines off and you should be good to go. by the way; i have a brand new in the box 24 volt charger if interested. would let it go for somewhere in the neighborhood of $80. just email if you want.

I’d disconnect batteries to charge. If one is faulty, it can fake the charger into thinking they are more charged than they really are… when charged together. Disconnected, you get a better idea of how each battery is doing.

They technically do not need to be disconnected. What is the difference between charging one battery at a time with a portable and a 2 bank permanent charger that runs seperate 12v supply (pos and a neg lead) to each battery? Connect only one battery at a time paying attention to polarity and you will be fine.

Mitch , just charge one at a time , no disconnect .

if you charge one at a time, they are already seperated
they only become connected when you put a load on the positive of one battery and the negative of the other.
that jumper wire only connects 2 of the 4 terminals
when you connect a battery charger to the positive of one battery and the negative of the same battery, the second battery is completely left out of the loop, even with the jumper wire still in place
