What is the best way to keep trolling motor batteries charged up when not in use? Is there some type of charger I can keep my battery hooked up to in my garage and it will keep it fully charged without overcharging it? I want something I can just keep the battery hooked up to that will charge it only when it needs to be charged
Yes there is a battery charger that is automatic. It will cut off automatically when the battery is fully charged. These are available at any auto parts store or Wally world. Check with the local hardware store too, some of them carry them as well. I have 2 of them and use them regularly. Mine are 10 amp so if I’m using the battery on back to back days I can get it fully charged overnight. Some people like the trickle chargers, a charger that only puts out 2 amps, but this charger will not completely charge a 110 amp battery that is mostly discharged overnight. I am basically a weekend fisher so I quite often go both days and the 10 amp charger works great for me.

PS A 10 amp charger charges at the rate of 10 amps per hour where the trickle charger charges at the rate of 2 amps per hour. If you have a 110 amp battery 75% discharged you need to be able to replace 82.5
amps so if you want to use the battery on back to back days you can do the math and see the trickle charger will not fully charge this battery in one night where the 10 amp one will.

Great information and advice. It sounds like the 10 amp might be what I need. I also will usually fish Saturday and Sunday and I want a fully charged battery each time I go out. Thanks a lot Mr Hardware.
over winter i’ve used this.

Battery Tender @ Batteries plus. they have a water proof one will charge and maintain. I also use a small solar at the dock for maintaining.
I definitely like the idea of waterproof and solar power. That will be something I will check into. I remember many times having a charger hooked up to my boat main battery and it started raining and I had to go cover up the battery charger or just unhook the thing.
Guest onboard chargers are the only way to go.
From reds to marlin you got it.
