Ok another question for you guys. If I buy a boat with on board battery charger and keep my boat at a boat storage facility, how do I keep the trolling motor batteries charged? Is just the running of the big motor enough to charge them or do they need to be plugged in before every trip? Always just had one battery that I removed after each trip and charged in my garage and brought back with me when I picked the boat up. That won’t work with the 2 battery’s and on board charger , so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
does your storage place offer electricity?

I highly doubt your trolling motor battery is hooked up to your cranking battery. You need to charge the trolling motor battery after every trip, the sooner the better. Letting a deep cycle battery sit drained is not good for them. I pull mine out and take it home to charge it.
No don’t believe it offers electricity.
as steelytom said, most “onboard” batter chargers have nothing to do with charging the batteries while underway, they just replace the box in your garage. inconvenient for sure but if you can’t plug your boat in while it’s stored I guess you have to pull them out every time?

I have heard about a solar system that may work for you… I don’t know anything about it, but have just heard a guy say he used one…may be worth looking into.

I appreciate that I will look into the solar charger.
I’m pretty sure hes referring to a DC alternator on-board charger, minn kota makes them, they charge your trolling motor batteries with current generated from your alternator on your outboard… If you can get electricity in the shed you might be better off getting a regular charger and keeping them maintained while not in use in the shed.
