Anybody have a trolling motor on a Pioneer 197? 80lb. or 100+lb? Would rather not move up to a 3 battery system, but thinking it might be necessary to stay put or make headway in current. What do you think?

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
I have an 80 lb thrust, gets the job done. I also didn’t want 3 battery’s. In really heavy current I could use a little more but I didn’t think it was worth the extra battery. If I had to do it again I would got with the 80.

Thanks Chris and TTKarl. I’m leaning toward the big one. Boat already has 2 batteries with 4 position switch, as I assume most are rigged. Am I correct in thinking that if I go with the 112 3-battery system, I can rig the batteries such that I only have to add 2 batteries and use one of the batteries I already have? I definitely don’t want to have 5 batteries on the boat - it might sink. TTKarl, good to know the 80 is sufficient - still might go that route.
1 house and 3 trolling. House stays on multi switch, trolling motor batteries are isolated and only hooked to the trolling motor. Nothing else gets hooked to the trolling motor batteries.
I like the T-H Marine Ranger Style 50-amp Circuit Breaker.
It combines a 50amp breaker and a manual switch in one low profile mountable box.
Thanks Friogatto. Are you suggesting only having one house/starting battery? Isn’t it better to have two so you can run the house with the motor off and have a full cranking battery to get home?
80LB I PILOT
I’ve got the 112lb 60" shaft on my boat and I’m glad I didn’t go for the 80.
If it’s windy (anything over 10kts) and the current is moving with the wind, I need every bit of that 112lbs to stay put. Maybe if I didn’t have a t-top the wind wouldn’t be such a factor…but 112 will keep me put at Grillage and at the Jetties in all but the worst weather/current (which is to say the worst weather that one would be out fishing in) and almost hold me a dynamite hole when the current is ripping in/out there. In my experience you don’t want to be wanting more power. My biggest complaint about the iPilot system is that if the current is too strong and it keeps losing ground then it just shuts off, but it doesn’t give you any indication, you just have to notice you’re drifting.

No way an 80 will keep you put at the grillage. Every boat I’ve been on has the trolling motor batteries as it’s own system and not hooked into any starting or house batteries. With my 80lb I have 2 batteries under the console for the trolling motor and 2 under the leaning post for running everything else.

So I pulled the trigger on the 112lb Ulterra 60". Anybody have any advice on where to mount the quick release? There’s someone on the Pioneer Owner website who fabricated a metal plate to set the puck off from the side of the boat - that might be the best option, unless y’all know of a good alternative.
