I am thinking about putting a trolling motor on my jon boat. Was wondering if a 12volt would be enough? Do I need to go 24 volts? The motor on the back is a 25 tiller so no generator to charge battery while in the water. What kind of time can I expect? A little knowledge from you guys would be helpful.
I have the same size Jon with a 12volt 55lb thrust troller. It is more than enough to move the boat,it lasts all night as I use it for gigging and have never killed the battery.
I have a 24V 84 lb foot control Motor Guide that I am looking to sell if you go 24V. …

Thanks Fishbowl I think 12volt will be the way to go.
you will be fine with a 12v. I have had many of them on jon boats and never had a problem. However, I would use a different battery for each motor as you dont want to be stranded b/c of a dead battery.

I have a 12V 55lb Riptide on my 13 whaler and its plenty - you can practically waterski behind it on level 5
