Trolling motor question...

How big is too big for a 16’ high tide?

What would the recommended size be for this boat? Thanks.

have you ever thought you wish your boat didnt go as fast as it does?
depends on how and where you fish
a 55# 12 volt will probably work fine, just going to be limited in range.
a 70# 24volt will drag that boat around like a rag doll, and do it for a very long time.
a 101# will likely pull a skier, but it will cost a ton, and then you have to have 3 batteries

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

i have the minn kota 74lb 24volt copilot on my 16ft tracker.it works great for following schooling stripers

55lb thrust is the right size. You could probably use a 70 or 80lb thrust and be moving good. I would say it’s the number of batteries that would be the limitation. 3 batteries in a 16’ high tide would really weigh it down.

I’ve a 2006 MK 55#, CP/SP (I believe), with a brand new lower end drive unit and 2 remotes if you’re not looking for new.

I have a 55Lb thrust Motorguide on my 16’ High Tide. I have the biggest blue top Optima battery they make and it runs forever. I used it in the Keys pretty much all day long. I’ve seen 5mph on the GPS with it. That’s good enough for me. You don’t wan’t the weight of two batteries in the bow of this boat…trust me.

Nothing but a “SMART-ELLIC”!

The 55 ought to work for you, Ricky. My 52 did fine in my 16’ Stinger. The main thing is that you want to make sure that it will push you forward well against a heavy current. LL ought to be able to tell you that.

Sailfish,

I had a 50 lb thrust on my 16 ft wareagle and I now have a 70 lb thrust. In windy conditions and long hours on the water the 50 simply did not cut it for me.
