No t-top and would prefer to have a pretty strong/over sized unit. Current in small creeks can be tough.
The “smallest” I would get is a 80lb thrust (24 volt) Minn Kota Terrova… https://minnkotamotors.johnsonoutdoors.com/saltwater-trolling-motors/riptide-terrova
If you want “oversized”" then go with the 112lb thrust (36 volt) Minn Kota Terrova… https://minnkotamotors.johnsonoutdoors.com/saltwater-trolling-motors/riptide-terrova
The 80lb model has a 54" shaft and the 112lb model has a 60" shaft (they make a 72" as well). I don’t care for the auto-deploy/stow feature of the Ulterra so that’s why I suggested the Terrova. If you want/like the auto-deploy/stow feature then I’d go with the Minn Kota Ulterra. The iPilot functionality is well worth the money.

Get the MinKota 112#. And get enough shaft length, especially if you go out any.
I have a 54" shaft on my 20’ boat and it is plenty. Keep in mind, the longer the shaft, the higher the top of the unit will stick up. I do a lot of fishing with artificials so I’m constantly casting. If the head on my trolling motor sticks up too high, it will constantly be in the way. Granted, the profile of your boat should be the main determining factor for the length of your trolling motor.

I have a 54" on my 20 bay boat too. Lake and inshore it’s fine, but offshore I could use a few more inches. And yes, I’ve heard that before.

60" shaft on my 20ft bay boat. The extra 6" comes in handy at the jetties and at the reefs.

I have a 60 inch shaft on a 17 skiff and I’m glad I got the long one. Go ahead and get i-Pilot or don’t get one at all
17’ Mako //90hp Mercury
16’ Alumacraft // 20hp Yamaha
14’ War Eagle // 9.8hp Tohatsu
17’ Key West // 90hp Yamaha
80# 60" would be what we would normally put on a 19’ boat with no t-top.
if you want more power than you will ever need, put a 112# on it.

Thanks to everyone!
I have the 112lb model with the 60" shaft on my 18’ center console and I am glad I went with more vs. less. My boat has lots of surface area (mainly flat bottom) and between that, the wind, and the tide, I have used every bit of the 112lb thrust. Plus, the iPilot is a true game changer, at least for me. I press 2 buttons and grab my rod, while before it was the “lets see if we can anchor this thing” and hope the danforth grabs something. 50/50 chance it worked in most cases.
I have the 80 / 60 on my 21 ft sportsman, per Charleston Marine suggestions and its been perfect. I have not been wanting for more. Can do without the weight of another battery too. Highly recommend Chas Marine for install and purchase as well. They did me GREAT

Always go more than you need. You can run a 36 as a 24 if you’d like.
Def get the ipilot. I didn’t and regret it every time i go out.
Second that on the guys at Charleston Marine for these. They are the only shop in town that does the warranty work, they really know what they are doing when it comes to the Minn Kota products.
