Trolling motor repair shop?

Anyone know of a trolling motor repair person or shop?

I know my batteries are good but when I turn it on, it will run slowly and “choppy”.
Then turn off and back on and runs fine. Then a few seconds slowly and choppy again.
Now it only runs slow and choppy.

Any advice?

Also, a mobile repair tech referral would be great (for another issue with boat).
Thanks!

If its a minn Kota I can help u out

Weston, I have an Ipilot having a similar problem. What are your thoughts?

Key West 1520

She’s little, but she’s pretty, skinny and fast. (Just like the girls I used too dream about before I knew better)

Be careful common courtesey is contagious!!!

Charleston Marine is the only MINN Kota authorized service center in this area.
we can handle all warranty and non warranty repairs on Minn Kota.

how do you know your batteries are good?
have you had them load tested since this problem began?
also, very common problem we see, corrosion in the boat wiring causing low voltage at the motor

I had this issue with a corroded plug/ receptacle. Check and make sure your trolling motor wires arent getting hot, could indicate a voltage drop at the contact.

Start at the battery and move fwd before you do anything else!

Ok we’ll I’m not sure where ur located but there’s a minn Kota service center in chapin I’ve had good work done from him and there’s one in greenville

Will check the batteries for sure. If it were batteries would the prop turn normal speed flip the switch off then turn slow and choppy a few seconds later, then back to normal speed…all within a minute? Once turning normal speed, I left it on for 15 min and was running like a champ. Turned off and back on 5 min later and choppy again.

Any easy way to test 24 volt current at the plug?

It is a motorguide not Minnkota.

Thanks!

Tonight, I went out to the boat and the plug (both male and female) had signs of corrosion.
Turned the handle and it was doing the choppy thing, barely turning. I turned the handle about 15 times and all of the sudden it started working perfectly. I’ve done this a bunch, and I’ll go back out tomorrow and it’ll be choppy again.

While running well tonight, I jiggled the power cord and no changes in performance.

So, I am stumped as if it’s an internal motor issue (corrosion, or bearing issue?) or if it’s a power supply issue. I would think if power connection or battery it would be pretty conistently not working instead of that every other turn of the handle gives a different result.

Any advice?

Weston, we are in Charleston
yes, there is a shop in Columbia, Greenville, Charleston and myrtle beach

yes, it could be corrosion
eventually the current finds a path through the corrosion to the trolling motor, but its not 24 volts you need, its 24 volts with enough amps to do the job
