trolling motor rope/handle

Just got a new tolling motor (minkota hand control) a few months back and i have not attached the handle to the rope yet. If i do it will beat the hell out of my deck, esp in rough water. Thought the handle would clip onto the shaft for/during storage but it does not. Anyone on here come up with a great solution to this issue yet? If so, I’d love to hear. I would like a foam handle, is there any such thing? is there a downside to cutting the rope and having the handle really close to the metal hinged bracket instead of flopping around on the deck? Thanks guys.

Put velcro on the TM head and both sides of the handle. When you’are fishing or stowed, place the handle on the head. It will mostly stay attached but will not stay when trailering.

Go to a kraft store and buy a strip of velcro. Wrap it around the handle and TM.

I had the same issue with my old motorguide. I have the recessed hand rails on the bow of my boat and I cut a notch in the handle just a little narrower than the diameter of the rope. I would pull the rope around the hand rail and back up towards the TM and then push the notch over the rope. It would stay there until I pulled it off and never had an issue with it after that.

Here’s a picture of it to give you a better idea.

I just wrap mine rope around the motor shaft. Its long enough to wrap several times and does not seem to be a problem.

Much thanks guys, all great ideas! I will play around with them and see which one works best for me.

I replace mine with a rubber coated one off an old chainsaw, works well and doesn’t make a lot of racket or damage!
