Trolling motor

Not sure what i need for the new 21xp.Any ideas would help.I plan to mount it myself also the front seat.

The Minn Kota IPilot 80lb thrust I would think would do the trick. Everything I hear is that they are awesome.

I’d get the minkota copilot 101lb thrust. Get I pilot if you will be tarpon fishing.

I think you might want to look at an 80 or 101lb thrust Minn Kota with Copilot like Coosawkane said, or one with I-pilot. Just depends on if you have a 24v or 36v system.

If you are getting a remote control unit, then you might as well go for the I-pilot. The spot lock is worth the price of admission alone, but having the GPS also improves the ability to follow a desired bearing and adds track recording and speed control. 80 lb thrust will do the job. 101 will be ideal if you have the room for 3 batteries.

I’ve fished with a good friend, on Murray, who has the spot lock option. It is fantastic. Holds the boat directly over the spot you want to fish. Makes adjustments for wind speed and direction instantly. I assume it will make the same adjustments with current too.

I am going to be moving from dock to dock on the stone. Not sure what shaft size i need.80 lb thrust sounds good. Some said lift assist?? I need someone that has a good set up to feed me some solid info.Foot controls worth a crap?? I do not want something i have to lean over and control.I see me overboard.LOL
I want to sit work a dock and move on to the next.

In your situation foot controls would be your best bet. After a some time using it, you won’t even look down anymore.

If you are moving from dock to dock with the trolling motor, similar to a bass fisherman fishing docks, brush, etc. I agree with the foot cable control. I’ve been using them so long that I don’t even think about anything except where I want the boat to be positioned. The old Johnsons and Evinrudes were my favorites, but they aren’t made anymore. With them I could change the speed, steer and start and stop on a dime… with just one foot controlling it all. Foot controlled motors are also good for fishing deep, provided you can reach the bottom with a marker for a reference point. Just you will tend to drift off of the spot when landing and handling the fish if it’s windy or there’s current. The above mentioned spot lock holds you on the spot automatically when turned on. To my knowledge, there isn’t a foot cable controlled motor with a spot lock option. It would be nice though.

Go with 80 # to go to the 101 you need another battery That means 4 batterys at 75# each

I have a co pilot with the remote and foot control. Incredible trolling motor. I rarely use the foot control though. The remote on a lanyard around your neck is the ticket.

I think you will regret it if you go with the 80 instead of the 101. I have the 80 on a 16’ flats boat and couldn’t imagine having anything less, especially when the tides are big. For what you’re talking about doing, the iPilot sounds like the deal.

I have a Carolina Skiff 198 DLV with 80 lb iPilot. I Also have a t-top which makes wind more difficult. I wish I had the 101lb so if you have a bigger boat and a t-top or are fishing currents, wind etc… 101 be the way to go. I-Pilot rocks.

I’ve got the 80 lb I pilot on a 22 bx and trust me its plenty. I have used it in all situations including literally fishing for hours at the jetties using spot lock. You absolutely do not need a 101 lb trolling motor for that boat.

I pilot

Park where you want next to dock and it keeps the bow within a 5ft circle. So far I’ve used it to keep me over a reef structure nearshore and just off dock pilings and over small submerged oyster bars and sunken barges.

It’s addicting.

Ps. I move my MK Riptide 80 between a 16.5 ft flats skiff and a 22 ft HEAVY bay boat. Have a quick release puck on both boats. The 22 ft boat may go 2 knots with it. It only seems insufficient when you’re in waves offshore and the prop in the bow loses it’s bite.

Just added a Stealth charger so keeps the TM batteries topped off all day when running.

i have been reading these posts and have come to the conclusion that i want a mk 80# troll motor with i-pilot. can t use i link as i don t have proper gps. also plan to get the foot control. my question is, i would like to mount a garmin echo 300 transducer to the motor, but a salesman said it wouldn t work w/spotlock as the head would spin around, wrap up cable and snap it. i don t see how as the power cable would tangle/wrap too. right? will appreciate some in put from ya ll.

the tm will spin around quite a few times before the cable gets tight enough to stop it because its in little coils and stretches a lot. Transducer on it will not work unless you want to constantly be holding the turn button to make sure the wire doesn’t tangle.

I got the RT80/st/cp/ap
