So couldn’t find any Cigar minnow this morning, but the bait guy gave me some options…
Spanish Sadines about the same size as a cigar.
Northern Mackeral… pretty ■■■■ big (12" ish), had to build some rigs.
Both troll very well at slow speeds… 3 mph
Kings were tearing them things up today! sardines deep, N. Mackeral with jig heads, 2 trebles. The N. Mackeral brought the the big boys.
You all may use them all the time, but today was my cherry breaker.

Might try to sell once i get it in perfect shape. Tried selling with a couple issues, but it didn’t work out.

I emailed you some thime ago about the trophy. Whats the price in the boat know? pictures
Sorry, never got the email. Just going to keep it now, fresh paint getting sprayed on this week. Crazy how much more you enjoy a boat once all those little bottons work.
Hey man,
It’s Rick here, I got a Mercury switchbox from you a few months ago.
For years, I spent tons of time looking for bait and throwing a net. Then, I started pulling dead baits like you did and no difference. I still say, it is a real fish, smells like a real fish and is moving…Kings don’t have steathascopes and look for a heart beat.
Trolling they are fine and then take a break and send them down to the bottom for grouper. I still take and prefer menhaden when easily available, just don’t spend 2 hours looking for them.
I am getting my boat hull painted in January. Doing my homework now to choose between Awlgrip and Interlux. Let us know how your paint job comes out. I am very interested.
Yes, the switchbox fixed it. I just bought two suzuki 140s that are in great shape and sold the old mercs. Did the whole motors swap myself right in the yard and it came out great.
Good luck on the sale.
I do them the same the way I do live bait. I will put one down on the down rigger too. Hank Brown heads hooked right thru the nose and trolled and try em with a duster skirt…regular nose hook and treble in the back king rig will work and I usually troll very slow, sometimes just bumping the boat in and out of gear.
Try these heads for your dead baits Michael and Trent are from Murrells Inlet. There Comapany is Fishizzle tackle great guys
Fishizzle “Meal Ticket” 1 oz. Skirted Jig
When the money’s on the line, these better be on your line! Introducing the newest addition to the Fishizzle Tackle product line, the Fishizzle “Meal Ticket” skirted jigs!
I use Jig heads, stinger hook and a duster. I hook him through the chin out the nose to keep his mouth shut. This will help with the spinning.
Cigars, sardines, and Spanish Mackeral troll very well at about 2.5-3.5 mph.
I troll 2 deep, 2 with heavy jig heads, 1 way back with just trebles on the surface.
I catch just as many fish with dead bait.
Bought a new to me boat the other day. Trophy is $8.5k… That is what my neighbor will buy it for.
