Down here on Moultrie, using stretch 25’s, I troll between 2.5 and 3 mph. Seems to work for me.

Ditto with u-rigs on Lake Murray.
2.5 to 3 w/2.8 being favorite speed.
Are you checking speed by gps?

2.5-3 mph

You may want to try the old trick of dragging a 5 gallon bucket or maybe one of those trolling plates.

When we use leadcore during the hot summer the slower speed gets the line down but the guys that use only downriggers can go much faster since their lines will be down.

I would also think with stretch lures the extra speed would not hurt much at all but with U rigs it would

With the stretch 25’s, sometimes if I mark a school, I’ll take it out of gear until there is almost no tension on the lines and then put it back in gear and then get nailed on multiple lines. Just try different things over where you are marking fish.

I agree, start and stop the boat and drive in “S” patterns. This will help trigger a lot of bites better than just running in a straight circle

The start and stop works very good for freelines and downlines as well. When in a bunch of fish I stop till the down lines go straight then go full speed on the trolling motor.
